FCA + Dropbox: What's all the hype?

We recently formed a partnership with Dropbox and are offering unlimited storage for all FCA staff. That sounds awesome....right? Well it is... unless you don't really know what Dropbox is...or what it can do for you.

Here are a few things that Dropbox can do:

  1. You can access files from any device (computer, phone, tablet, etc...)
  2. Your files are backed up and are always safe
  3. You can share these files with others

You can access files from any device

Dropbox is a cloud storage solution. Meaning that it stores files (like documents, flyers, pictures, videos etc..) on their servers, not on the hard drive of your computer. This means that the files don't have to actually reside on your computer, which will allow you to access them at anytime from any device.

With the dropbox app (available on mobile and tablet devices), you can show videos at huddles, automatically upload photos, or open documents from anywhere. You could save a brochure for the upcoming banquet to your dropbox account then access it from your phone to show every one at your weekly staff meeting.

Your files are backed up

Accidents happen. Your computer crashes, you drop your phone in the toilet (this happens more than you know), your laptop gets stolen. In case something bad should happen, Dropbox has all your files backed up and can be restored in a snap. This is because the files don't actually live on your computer, they live in your Dropbox account!

You can share your files with others

This is one of my favorite features about Dropbox... It's a quick and easy way to share files. Invite your fellow staff, coaches, volunteers, and huddle leaders to any folder in your Dropbox, and it'll be as if you saved that folder straight to their computer.

Maybe you took a bunch of photos at an FCA event and you want to share them with all staff in your area. You can send them a link to those specific photos in your Dropbox, and they will instantly have access to it.

Maybe you have a local volunteer who is going to put together a camp promo video for you, but needs the video footage you took at camp last year. Well now you can upload the video files to dropbox and send the volunteer the link to download it. It's as simple as that.
